January trip 2007: David Borland and Graham Pountain visited Bethany from 11th - 27th January. This trip was mainly concerned with going with a fine toothcomb through the budget and making plans for the future

New children: We now have 109 children. Three of these children were admitted in February and Onesmo has emailed me their photos. Click here to see the new children.
Forever Angels - Mwanaidi and Neema: Both girls have now been there just over 3 month and are doing well. Amy Hathaway the mamager at Forever Angels reports:
‘Neema and Mwanaidi are doing really well. They are hard working, get on well with the staff and children and are keen and eager to learn. In fact - I envisaged all sorts of teething troubles and haven't had any which is great!’ They visited home (Bethany) for a weekend in January and the staff together with their brothers and sisters where encouraging them to continue to ‘work hard and behave well’ as they will be the first two girls to leave Bethany and become independent. Amy has indicated that if they continue as they are now once the training is completed (in about 9 months) then she will have no problem in employing them full time.

Accrington College: 8 of our children have been offered 12 months tuition at Accrington and Rossendale College. 3 of our girls, Rehema Kasimu, Jesca James and Eva Joseph and 5 boys; Mwita Marwa, Laban Daniel, Evarist Shaban, Frank Willibard and Lucas Mtaki.. The girls will study child care and the boys will learn various building skills. Click here to see their photos.

Future Trips:
March 12 to 27th is our next trip for Roy Sagar, Jemma Turner and Graham Pountain.
Easter trip sees Eddie and Heather Jeffery together with their two children Alex and Rebekah along with Ian and Samatha Kelly, Tim Green, Kieran and Annmarie McManus.
April 30th to May 14 group consisting of: Graham Pountain, David Borland, John Brindle, Pat Bridge, Rebecca McCavana, Zoe  Richardson, Christina Langan,  Victoria Delaney, Sean Martin, Martin Palmer,

Summer Trips: Not yet finalised but we feel there will be three trips which will overlap, the first being the 9th July.
Building work: We now have three new building projects and two major repair items.
The largest is the building of a large multipurpose unit that can be used for both classrooms and accommodation. It will consist of three large rooms and 4 smaller rooms plus its own toilet block.
The second is a unit for full time married volunteers. We expect it will be used by Daniel and Eliada and baby Ruth. It will have its own shower room and toilet.

The third new work is a new male and female pit lattrine for members of our staff.

Fourthly we intend rebuilding a security wall around our raised water tank and UV filter which has slowly been eroded by rainfall over the past few years.

Finally our underground water tank which collapsed during recent heavy rainfall needs to have one wall rebuilt and we intend bracing the inside of the tank with timber so that it does not collapse again.

Children’s health: Our biggest problem is malaria which affects the children and staff from time to time and some of our children have recently been admitted to hospital for a short spell before they were able to recover.
Power shortages : Improving due to the recent rainfall
Monthly Supporters / Enquirers Meetings:
