‘Write a Story Competition’
Using various idioms and phrases
Standard 4; 200 words, Standard 5; 300 words, Standard 6; 400 words, Above 500 words
Pay special attention to grammar, use of capitals and punctuation including quotation marks.
Remember most stories are told in the past tense e.g. liked
Idiom and phrases you should use:
- Over the moon = Happy / pleased
- Kicked the bucket = something or someone that has died
- Under the weather = slightly ill or unwell
- All ears = I/we are listening
- Watch my lips = Pay attention
- Drop me a line = write me or send me a letter
- Give me a hand = help me
- An arm and a leg = very expensive
- Piece of cake = easy
- Passed away = died
- Between you and me = a secret
- Has a screw loose = silly
- Fools paradise = not being realistic
- Up for it = enthusiastically wanting to try
- Slept like a log = slept all night in a deep sleep
