On the 30th June Jesca, Emmakulatha, Sophia, Minza and Fatuma along with other five English volunteers who were Graham, Sheila, Gill, Laura and Jonathan went over to Bethany for two weeks to help with different things. One of the main reasons for visiting was to help children learn and/or improve their English and this was done by teaching them different things in English. Each one of them took a class and the timetable was as followed:
In the first week on Monday 4th July and Friday 8th July
Minza took pre-school and standard one with the help of one care-worker and taught English, Maths and Science. Fatuma took standard two and she taught them English, Maths, Science and general knowledge. Sophia took standard three; she taught them English, Maths, Science and general knowledge. Laura and Jonathan took standard four and they taught English, Maths and general knowledge. Gill took standard five; she taught English, Maths and general knowledge. Gill and Jonathan took secondary boys form 1 and standard six boys which they taught them English. Graham and Sheila took secondary boys form 2, 3 and 4 teaching them English. Emma and Jesca took all the secondary girls and Std 6 girls for basic Child-Care. All classes also did lots of different activities and games with the children.
In the second week on Monday 11th July and Friday 15th July
In the second week everybody taught the same subjects but in different classes except for Minza and Fatuma who taught the same classes. Minza took pre-school and standard one with the help of one care worker. Fatuma took standard two and Sophia standard three, four and six. Laura took standard four and five and Jonathan took standard six, secondary boys form 1 and all the secondary girls. Gill took standard five, six, secondary boys form 1 and all the secondary girls. Emma and Jesca took all the classes except pre-school, standard one and two as well as secondary girls. Graham and Sheila took secondary boys form 2, 3 and 4.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday week 1 and week 2
Minza took pre-school and standard one with the help of one care-worker, Fatuma took standard two, Sophia standard three, Laura, Jonathan, Gill, Graham and Sheila, took standard four, five and six. Also Jonathan, Gill, Graham and Sheila took all the secondary girls. Emma and Jesca had a three day Child-Care seminar to all the Bethany care-workers and other care-worker from different Children homes.
There were six sessions a day for children and five sessions a day for the seminars. Children’s lessons started at 8:00 up to 4:00 and the seminar started at 8:30 up to 5:00. Then they had a break for evening meal and other few things and after that they had an hour for Educational Video and discussion.
