History: Ngeme was admitted to the Bethany family along with his two sisters. His mother had died giving birth to a fourth child and this child was left in hospital but later died. He came from Mwanza and had been in foster care for a short time since the death of his mother. His father was unknown and there were no other known relatives. The three siblings including Ngeme were brought to Bethany by the Social Welfare Officer of Mwanza as there seemed to be no other person to look after the three of them and it was thought in their best interests to stay together as a family. On admission to Bethany on 02/08/2001 Ngeme was in a very poor state of health, much worse than his two sisters. This was probably because he was so very young at the time, around 18 months of age. There were sores all over his body and he was suffering badly from malnutrition. He was wearing very poor clothes and brought nothing of any value with him. Medical tests were done and treatment was started and in a short time there seemed to be much improvement once a balanced, nutritional diet was given. To date Ngeme is a healthy little boy and seems to be very content living with the Bethany family probably having no memory of life away from Bethany. He has many friends among the children and seems very content with life at Bethany.
