History: Mwasi (known as Joyce) was admitted to the Bethany family along with her sister and brother. Her mother had died giving birth to a fourth child and this child was left in hospital but later died. She came from Mwanza and had been in foster care for a short time since the death of her mother. Her father was unknown and there were no other known relatives. The three siblings including Mwasi were brought to Bethany by the Social Welfare Officer of Mwanza as there seemed to be no other person to look after the three of them and it was thought in their best interests to stay together as a family. On admission to Bethany on 02/08/2001 Mwasi, along with her brother and sister were in a very poor state of health. She suffered from malnutrition and her body was covered in sores. She was wearing very poor clothes and brought nothing of any value with her. Medical tests were done and treatment was started and in a short time there seemed to be much improvement once a balanced, nutritional diet was given. To date Mwasi is a healthy girl and seems to be very content living with the Bethany family. She has many friends among the children and seems very content with life at Bethany
