Report by John Brindle on his first trip to Bethany

Return

    Bethany

I went to my first Bethany meeting in January this year and before I knew it I’d said yes to going out at Easter. (Power of persuasion.) By Sunday the flight was booked, no going back now. I started to reflect on what I’d done, the last time I’d had injections I was ill and I was apprehensive but my fear was unfounded, What would the accommodation be like, would I fit into the team, could I survive on rice for 2 weeks, would I cope with the heat, what if I became ill, would I manage to complete the work.

From Hope Street to Bethany it was a long and tiring journey I clocked it at 28hrs. We turned of the main road to Bethany and all I wanted to do was sleep. Entering through the gate at Bethany and getting my first sight of the children running to greet us, shaking hands with them and listening to their enthusiastic welcoming song I forgot all about my own aches and lack of sleep and just absorbed the sights and sounds that surrounded me. All my fears about doing the right thing in going there just disappeared. Accommodation was good the beds were comfortable the shower great, food was substantial, plenty of cups of tea to keep us going.  Great team of people to work and relax with. I’m looking forward to going back next year.
